The nation is marking Pakistan Day with immense patriotism and enthusiasm today (Sunday), as the Aiwan-e-Sadr hosts a remarkable military parade to honor the 1940 Lahore Resolution, which laid the foundation for the creation of a separate homeland for Muslims of South Asia.
President Asif Ali Zardari, serving as the chief guest at this year's Pakistan Day parade, is joined by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, military chiefs, and various dignitaries. This year’s parade is taking place at Aiwan-e-Sadr, instead of the traditional Shakarparian Parade Ground.
The day began with a 31-gun salute in the federal capital and a 21-gun salute in the provinces. Additionally, a change of guard ceremony took place at the mausoleum of Allama Iqbal in Lahore, where a Pakistan Air Force (PAF) contingent took over duties from the Rangers.
Touching on the nation’s foreign policy, President Zardari reiterated Pakistan's commitment to fostering peaceful and stable relations with neighboring countries and the global community. He also recalled the struggles of the Kashmiri people, affirming Pakistan’s steadfast support for their cause on international platforms.
"Our aim is to build a modern, strong Islamic welfare state," President Zardari stated, underscoring the importance of preserving the country’s hard-won independence, which was achieved through numerous sacrifices.
In the parade, military personnel proudly marched, while PAF fighter jets executed a spectacular flypast. President Zardari took a moment to reflect on the tremendous sacrifices made by countless Muslims to establish Pakistan. He remarked, "We achieved freedom through immense sacrifices," and celebrated the unity of Pakistan’s people and armed forces.
President Zardari expressed confidence that the nation can confront any difficulty, asserting, “The road ahead may not be easy, but it is not impossible. I urge everyone to dedicate themselves to the development of the country and work together for a prosperous and peaceful Pakistan."
The president also reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to defeating terrorism and countering the threats of modern warfare. He urged, “The menace of terrorism must be eradicated,” while emphasizing that the nation’s resolve in facing external and internal threats remains unshaken.
